Pink quilt series #4

• Machine pieced and quilted
• 63 inches X 49 inches
Do you like pink? This is the quilt for you! This very pink sampler is made from blocks that were generously donated to me by Pine Tree Quilters Guild Area 4 members. I assembled them and the quilt was machine quilted Marcia O’Donnell of Heart ‘N Home Quilting in Albion, Maine.
Each block is surrounded by four different fabrics. The wider sashing that brings all of the blocks together is a beautiful batik. The backing is a pink on pink feather design.
This is a lap size quilt that would be great to snuggle with while reading, watching TV or just relaxing in your favorite chair.
Value: $175

Playing Around with Stars
• Warm & Natural batting
• Machine pieced and quilted
• 22 inches X 22 inches
This black, teal and purple small quilt was machine pieced and machine quilted by myself. There is a sleeve on the back to make it easy to hang on the wall or it could be used as a table topper.
I started with the multi-colored background fabric, pulled the star fabrics from my stash and played around with making the blocks and borders. The backing fabric is black, pink and green with “Quilters Share a Common Thread” printed on it in script.

Zoom in to better see the fabrics surrounding the blocks. The blocks are surrounded by two different batik fabrics and the binding is a subtle polka dot fabric. The backing fabric has pink butterflies on a lighter pink background.

This wall hanging is made in traditional Amish colors but is machine quilted with a variegated thread that makes it “Not Quite Amish”. It has a sleeve on the back that makes it ready to hang on a wall.
It was machine pieced by myself and machine quilted by Marsha O’Donnell of Heart ‘n Home Quilts in Albion, Maine.

FAQ's
1. When does the silent auction run?
This silent auction will begin Monday, July 5th, 2010, and run through Sunday, July 11th, 2010. Bidding ends on July 11th at 6:00 p.m. EST.
2. Why is my e-mail address going to be visible to others?
When I decided to do an online auction, I couldn’t afford to use eBay or other online auction sites. I want as much money as possible to go to the cause. A team of 3-Day walkers who had done a successful on-line auction were gracious enough to share how they did it. So a silent auction blog is what I’m doing.
Because I’ll need a way to contact you to let you know that you’ve won the auction, this is the only way that will work.
If you are uncomfortable with having your address out for everyone to see, may I suggest that you set up a yahoo or hotmail account?
If you are still not comfortable—please contact me at kahearn@roadrunner.com to discuss a bidding alternative.
3. I’ve looked through your items and I didn’t find anything of interest. However, I love your cause. Can I still donate?

Once there, for donations by check, scroll to the bottom of the page to print out a donation form. 4. How did you decide on the starting bid amount?
Starting bids are anywhere from 25 to 30 percent of the estimated value.
5. I see I'm the first bidder. The minimum starting bid is listed. Do I have to start at that price or can I go higher?
Of course! Feel free to bid as high as you'd like. The minimum starting bid is the lowest amount that I'll accept for the item. Should a first bid be lower than the minimum bid amount, that bid will not be accepted and eventually deleted from the comments section.
6. I had the highest bid, but now I see I’ve been outbid. Why wasn’t I notified?
I am unable to notify bidders that they’ve been outbid. Just like a face-to-face silent auction, bidders need to take responsibility to check on their bids to make sure that they are still the high bidder.
7. How much do I need to pay for shipping?
Shipping will be covered by me. However, if you'd like to make a donation for the shipping of your item, I would be happy to accept it. Please contact me at kahearn@roadrunner.com to discuss this donation.

About me
I’m a wife, mother, daughter, quilter, 3-Day walker, church administrator, and past NEADS puppy raiser. I think that about sums it up.
I’m a regular at the gym and a few years ago I started walking with a friend for the exercise. Little did I know at the time that it would lead me to walk in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure three years in a row!
Walking has never been my exercise of choice but when the opportunity came up to walk with a new friend, I went for it and am truly glad I did. I had always thought about walking in a multiple day walk to benefit breast cancer research and awareness but truthfully I don’t think I would ever have done it on my own. It took others to say they were thinking about it for me to say, “If you do, I will.”
That first year we were a team of 10 and boy did we learn a lot! We trained and did fundraisers together for what seemed like eternity. It was awesome though. The support we received from our friends, family and communities was beyond our wildest dreams. We raised over $32,000.
Last year, some of the original team members walked again and we were joined by some new members, including my daughter to make up a team of 7. While we still held fundraisers, we were blessed to have a local company, Thorndike Press, take us on as their charity for the year. They held many fundraisers and donated almost $10,000 to us helping us to raise over $17,000.
This year there are five of us, who have walked together before, walking again. While we are working more as individuals to raise funds, we are in touch with each other for much support.
Each year I have been fortunate to have my quilting friends support me financially as well as emotionally. Several of the quilts in this auction were made from blocks that they donated to me. I also received a $300 mini-grant from the Pine Tree Quilters Guild to help pay for the supplies needed to make the quilts.
I get asked why I do the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. My answer is simple: because I can.
Like many of us, I know several people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Every time I learn of someone else getting that diagnosis, I know that there is always the possibility that I could be the one someday getting that news.
So, what I do for now is walk - a lot!
